What Type Of Stainless Steel Is Used For Hose Clamps?

Stainless steel is a mixture of chromium, nickel, molybdenum, and other metals with the iron-carbon alloy.

What Is A Hi-Torque Stainless Steel Hose Clamp?

Torque measures rotational force: how much force is needed to make an object rotate.

High torque on hose clamps means that the screw can be tightened more before it snaps.

Thus, the device can clamp tighter, which is good for highly pressurized hoses. 

Typical stainless steel hose clamps are required by the SAE to have about 50 in/lbs of torque.

Cradle support is suitable for removable equipment.

It has a band that is raised and holds the clamp by one point—one side of the clamp contacts the mounted surface.

Lug support provides 3 points of mounting, and this support is made from small brackets that hold bolts, which are then fitted into a surface.

What Standards Are There For Stainless Steel Hose Clamps?

There are several standards that outline the requirements for stainless steel hose clamps. 

MIL-SPEC AA-52506 covers stainless steel hose clamps that are used for holding flexible ducts, hoses with a male fitting, and various aerospace, military, or heavy-duty applications. 

These hose clamps are generally used on coolant, fuel, oil, vacuum, and emission systems. 

The ISO 8177  international standard specifies maximum and minimum dimensions for omega clamps (saddle clamps) installed by two bolts with approximate diameters of 5 mm.

ASTM F2098 covers stainless steel clamps for securing SDR9 cross-linked polyethylene (PEX) tubing to a stainless steel insert—or liner—and plastic insert fittings.

What Coatings Can Stainless Steel Hose Clamps Have?

Hose clamps can be coated with functional and decorative coatings.

Functional coatings include PVC and vinyl.

These coatings provide protection from chemicals, and also protect the hose from the stainless steel surface or possibly sharp edges.

Decorative coatings may be polishes or paint. 

Satin polish is an abrasive polish that uses aluminum oxide as the abrasive substance. 

This finish produces a fairly smooth surface good for any application of a steel grille, but especially so for cooking. 

There is also brushed finish, which shows lines and is rougher to touch; brushed finish may not be great for cooking because the tiny grooves accumulate grease and are harder to clean.
