Why Use Stainless Steel For Work Tables?
Stainless steel is more resistant to various conditions like heat, humidity, impact, and chemicals.
Furthermore, stainless steel protects from rust, so the work table will serve you for a long time.
Stainless steel is more expensive than other work table materials.
This is why it is better to order stainless steel work tables from China—and KDM—since it will be cheaper.
Stainless steel work table
Stainless steel, like most metals, is non-porous.
This means that bacteria and toxins won’t get absorbed into the work table material, which presents a health hazard.
Another advantage of stainless steel work tables is that you can set hot pans and trays right on the surface because stainless steel is very resistant to heat.
If you are in a haste, you would not need to worry about a trivet, unlike with other countertop materials.
This is especially useful for high-stress cooking environments like fast-food restaurants.
Plus, stainless steel work tables can be recycled.
However, stainless steel may not be for you if you worry about noise, scratches, or fingerprints.
Not all stainless steel is used to make work tables.
Most stainless steel work tables have a wooden substrate—main layer of the work table that a sheet of stainless steel is fastened to.

What Grade Stainless Steel Is Used To Manufacture Work Tables?
Stainless steel work tables can be made with steel grades 304, 316, 201, and 430.
Stainless steel is made by adding chromium, nickel, and molybdenum in different proportions to the iron-carbon alloy.
Steel grades differ in the ratio of all these additives.
Stainless steel 316 protects the best against salt spray, certain acids, and high temperatures because of its higher concentration of molybdenum.
Acero inoxidable
Grade 316 is, thus, really good for work tables and countertops: cooking and cleaning.
Grade 304 is cheaper and more common in general use, but it is also very durable.
Steel grade 430 is also very popular and cheap, but less durable than grades 304 and 316.
We especially recommend grades 430 and 316 for stainless steel work tables: because one is cheap and the other is exceptionally durable.
Steel grade 201 has manganese and nitrogen, which make it tough and resistant to cold.
Thus, 201 steel work tables are great for freezer rooms in restaurants and cold anatomy labs.
What Gauge Of Stainless Steel Sheet Metal Do Work Tables Have?
The lower the gauge, the stronger, thicker, and more expensive sheet metal is.
Industrial applications usually request 14 gauge, which is about 2 mm thick.
Most often, commercial work tables are made with 16 or even 18 gauge stainless steel, which is equivalent to 1.2-1.6 mm in thickness.
Stainless steel gauge
Do Stainless Steel Work Tables Rust?
‘Stainless’ is a little misleading; this type of steel does get stained, but it does not rust.
Stainless steel does not rust unless it comes in contact with concentrated bleach.
This is why it is important to clean your work table, but not with harsh chemicals.
Some substances discolor stainless steel, so it may appear rusted, but it is not corroded.
Tea-staining
This is known as tea-staining, but it does not affect the lifetime of your stainless steel work table.
Smoke and salt are examples of substances that can discolor your stainless steel work table.
Also, stainless steel sinks can be discolored by harsh water—water high in salts and minerals
How Are Stainless Steel Work Tables Cleaned?
Stainless steel work tables can actually be cleaned well with vinegar.
However, vinegar should not be mixed with bleach or other cleaning substances because that presents a chemical hazard—both to stainless steel and personnel.
Cleaning with vinegar
Stainless steel work tables are easy to maintain.
All they require is an occasional wipe with soapy water and a cloth.
Harsh chemicals shouldn’t be used, as they can stain the steel.
What Are Stainless Steel Work Tables Used For?
Stainless steel work tables can be used in a variety of ways.
Most often, they are installed in restaurants, school cafeterias, cafes aboard a ship or train, workshops, garages, factories, hospitals, research labs—anywhere a work table is needed.
Such a work table will be a great addition to a restaurant cabinet.
Restaurants can also use stainless steel work tables as prep tables.
For residential applications, simple stainless steel work tables with cabinets, but without sinks and faucets, are ideal as kitchen islands.

Various garages, as well, may use stainless steel work tables for work.
Many schools and university labs also need stainless steel work tables to perform experiments on.
Like stainless steel worktops, work tables are versatile and durable, making them suitable for any application.
Can I Request A Sink In The Stainless Steel Work Table?
Absolutely!
You can request an integrated sink, which is when the sink is seamlessly made a part of the work table.
Integrated sinks are aesthetic and easy to clean, but if a part of it gets damaged, the whole work table may need replacement.
On the flip side, stainless steel is durable and is unlikely to get damaged.
Integrated sink work table
Integrated sinks are useful, but they also may be expensive.
Most restaurants use integrated sink work tables because it also saves space.
Sinks can be integrated into the work table, or they can be accounted for with a hole in the sheet metal.
If you want to install a separate sink, then we just make a cutout for it, and you can install the sink you want later on.
You can request single or double sinks, and sinks of any size and shape.
Although, rectangular or D-shaped sink designs are the most popular.
Stainless steel sink and faucet
Faucets go with the sinks, and you can request either one or more.
Single sinks are better for residential applications, whereas commercial work tables are better with double sinks.
You can also use one sink in a double-sink design as a dryer, placing a stainless steel rack or grille on top of it.
What Design Features Can I Request For A Stainless Steel Work Table?
Some features you can request for stainless steel work tables include various storage units like drawers and under-counters, upstand, doors, panels, upper decks, and tiers.
As for storage units, you can request any custom storage stainless steel configuration that you need.
We offer single- and multi-door storage units that go under the main work table surface.
You can also request sliding doors, which are basically panels on tracks that can move to the side.
Usually, there is a static and mobile component.
These doors also save a lot of space if they are double doors—the sliding door then overlaps the stationary door.
Stainless steel sliding doors
We also offer incomplete sliding doors that leave a part of the cupboard open and you can slide the door to the side to close and open certain parts.
These storage units can be broken into shelves for more efficient storage.
The shelves can be solid or they can be made from racks or grilles.
They can also be removable.
Grille shelves on the work table
Also, the storage units can be equipped with locks and vents for security and air circulation.
Also, we can manufacture sets of drawers that can be used for cutlery, tools and anything else that you need.
Stainless steel drawers
Work tables can be in any shape, but square, rectangular, and corner shapes are the most common.
They fit well into a room, and if you don’t have much space, then a corner, or L-shaped, work tables will be great.
L-shaped stainless steel work table
An upstand is the higher part of a worktop that slightly protrudes beyond the depth of the main cabinet.
They hide the gap between the cabinet and the wall, as well as provide a working surface.
They also protect a small part of the wall from splashes.
Stainless steel work table with an upstand
Upstands are great for kitchen cupboards, as well as for laboratories.
We can also provide underside panels that are great if you plan on using the work table as a desk.
Panels hide and protect your legs.
Work table with panels
This design is commonly used in factories and laboratories.
Furthermore, you can also request an upper deck, which is a shelf above the main work table surface.
This is helpful if you need a lot of storage space, so it is great for offices, labs, and to manage tools.
Upper deck
Plus, any work surface or tier can be tilted if you need it.
This is especially helpful to write, so tilted upper decks are great for a doctor’s office or lab.
All of these are custom, so contact us to discuss your design idea!
Are There Adjustable Stainless Steel Work Tables?
You can request an adjustable stainless steel work table.
These tables have adjustable legs, where half of it is hidden inside the other half.
There can be screws that, upon loosening, allow the user to raise the table up or lower it down.
Adjustable stainless steel work table
There can also be a mechanism that uses the manual force of turning a handle to change the height of the legs, like a jack.
It is possible to design partially adjustable tables that change the tilt of the surface and not the height as well.
Another design solution that is available is an adjustable work table with both feet and casters.
As such, feet can be placed on adjustable legs, while casters are installed higher up, so that when the table is lowered, the feet are retracted, leaving only casters.
Adjustable feet and casters
The reverse is also a possibility.
This allows for flexible use, stability, and mobility at the same time.
What Dimensions Can Stainless Steel Work Tables Be?
Stainless steel work tables can be of any dimension that you request.
They can belong, or they can be small depending on your application.
It is even possible to manufacture very narrow side tables that will work to extend your existing work table.
Narrow work table
What Feet Can Stainless Steel Work Tables Have?
You can request simple feet, bullet feet, adjustable feet, or casters.
Simple feet are just extensions of the legs, so they are not special.
Although, they can have a rubber bottom to resist slipping.
Bullet feet are thinner than the leg, and are commonly used.
Although, they may not be as stable as other types of feet.
Stainless steel bullet feet
They can be made from stainless steel, rubber, or plastic.
Adjustable feet are circular and they have a ball joint, so these feet can rotate and tilt in any direction.
These are great for uneven surfaces since they will tilt and adjust to any angle.
They are also called levelling feet.
Stainless steel adjustable feet
Thus, they are great for garages, factories, and other such applications.
Casters are small wheels on the bottom of your work table.
If you want a portable kitchen island, portable commercial restaurant work table, or a work table that can be used as a trolley, then casters are for you.
Work table casters
Besides casters, we can manufacture work tables on a pedestal or on legs of various heights—long legs or short legs, depending on the under-counter storage area.
The legs can be cube-like with corners, or cylindrical like bars.
The design you choose depends on the aesthetic you are going for, with cube-like legs looking harsh and bars looking elegant.
How Are Legs Attached To The Work Table?
There are several ways that legs can be attached to the stainless steel work table.
Legs can be put through holes in a tier, welded to a tier, or welded to the tier brace.
Legs that are put through a hole in the tier are good if you have a thick lower tier.
Hole in a tier
Tiers that are made with racks or thin surfaces use welded braces of different widths depending on the required strength of the work table.
Welded brace
These are also used if you request a lower bar for structural support, which are commonly used on smaller work tables since bigger ones are balanced due to their own size and weight.
Sometimes, these braces are not welded, but screwed in, which makes the tiers adjustable in height: braces are attached to the tier, and by loosening the brace screws, you can move the tier up or down.
Welded legs are great for any application.
Welded legs and structural support bar
Besides that, if you don’t have any tiers, the legs don’t need any of this.
They are always attached to the worktop surface.
Attaching stainless steel work table legs
They are screwed in with the gusset brace welded to the underside of the work table.
These gussets can be cube-like or bar-like depending on the shape of the legs.
What Is An Edge Profile?
An edge profile is the design of the work table’s edges.
Different types of edges have different aesthetics and functional purposes.
There are several ways to design an edge: square, beveled, bullnose, and marine.
Square edges—or flat edges—are the most common ones, and they look very professional.
Beveled edges are sloped either on the top, or both top and bottom.
Edge profiles
This creates a safer edge since there is no sharp top part.
Beveled edges also have a round look combined with the strictness of the slope.
Bullnose edges are rounded, providing safety against bumping into a sharp edge.
Marine edges are slightly raised to prevent liquid from splashing onto the floor.
Marine edge
Such edges are popular aboard ships in the cooking spaces—if the ship rolls on the waves, food or tools won’t fall off the work table.
Marine edges are also great for hospitals.
What Finishes Can I Choose From?
You can request various polishes like satin, brushed, mirror, antique matte, cross, vibration, and many more.
Satin polish is an abrasive polish that uses aluminum oxide as an abrasive substance.
Polishing stainless steel
This finish produces a fairly smooth surface good for stainless steel work tables/countertops.
There is also a brushed/hairline finish, which shows lines and is rougher to touch; brushed finish may not be great for cooking because the tiny grooves accumulate grease and are harder to clean.
However, the brushed polish does not show scratches and fingerprints.
Brushed vs satin polish
Cross polish is similar to brushed, but the lines meet at 45-degree angles.
Mirror polish is exactly what it sounds like — a very smooth mirror surface.
It is easier to clean, but any scratches and fingerprints are very prominent on such a surface.
Mirror polish does look very aesthetic, industrial, and futuristic.
Mirror finish
Antique matte gives the work table a very soft look.
It guards against fingerprints and has a grainy texture similar to cross polish.
Antique matte finish
Vibration polish is basically brushed polish, but the lines are non-directional.
Such polish reflects the light in an interesting way, looking expensive.
It also protects from fingerprints.
